SCAS | NMHA is seeking to hire a Director of Leadership Giving—an essential leadership role for our development team responsible for implementing and managing our major gift and legacy giving programs and launching our new donor circles program. The position also includes responsibilities around fundraising and donor relations communication, related events and programs, and other development efforts.

SCAS | NMHA is committed to a dynamic and responsive understanding of the artistic and cultural heritage of New Mexico and its global context, past, present, and future. We operate the only museum of its kind in the nation housing an important collection of traditional and contemporary Hispano New Mexican art including historic pieces from around the world for comparative purposes. Our unrivaled collection, library, and archive, located in the only John Gaw Meem-designed residential building open to the public in Santa Fe, represents an irreplaceable part of the nation’s artistic heritage.

Positioned between the conclusion of the Spanish Colonial Arts Society’s centennial year in 2025 and the 25th anniversary of the Nuevo Mexicano Heritage Arts Museum in 2027, this is an exciting time to join an enthusiastic team committed to success as we step into our next century.

As Director of Leadership Giving you will be broadly responsible for:

  • Providing vision, leadership, and guidance regarding major-gift fundraising opportunities to our Board of Directors and related development staff

  • Working with donors to plan and secure legacy gifts

  • Managing communications regarding campaigns and other activities

  • Performing other duties as assigned

We are looking for a person who is:

  • A strong leader as comfortable working independently as with a small team

  • Collegial, creative, flexible, and collaborative with experience in proven fund-raising methodologies as well as openness to “think outside the box” to uniquely suit our organization where appropriate

  • Actively engaged in the profession and abreast of current trends and industry best practices

  • An effective communicator—spoken and written

  • Committed to maintaining a high level of professionalism at all times

  • Committed to donor confidentiality

Required qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree with 5 to 7 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education

  • Proven strong leadership, fund-raising, and planning abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of tax-law and ethics pertaining to charitable giving

Additional Benefits. 12 paid holidays plus 120 hours of earned PTO per year. Monthly health and wellness stipend (upon conclusion of 6-month introductory period).
